As soon as I stepped off the boat, Turkey totally blew my mind. There was a huge band greeting us with traditional Turkish songs.
After a quick trip down the road, we found a little stand that had apricots and fresh squeezed pomegranate juice. It was easily the most refreshing drink that I have ever had.
Then we arrived at Lycia to see the ancient (400 B.C.) tombs carved into the sides of the cliffs.
The largest carving shown is the tomb of King Dionysus.
We took a motorboat through Dalyan to Kaunos.
This guy ran right by me – close enough to touch. He wasn’t stopping for anybody though.
A Turkish refreshment for the boat ride back.
And then we got to see Turkish rugs being woven.
Back to Marmaris…
Afterwards T and I checked out the Marmaris Bar Street which was a sight in itself. Instead of “street tacos” or “street hotdogs” there were stands filled with raw oysters for bar-goers. We opted to head to a place on the water just outside of the row of bars to watch the sunset, and the people there were so hospitable.
We also learned that Asprin is not really “a thing” there. When T went into a store and asked for one, they pointed him towards a drink similar to a Sprite. We got a chuckle out of that, and I’m sure they did too.
